Week of Feb. 6 - 10

Homework suggestions for week of February 6:

Language Arts:
*read daily for 10-15 minutes (Required)

*If you haven’t already, start a personal journal for your child to write in everyday. This can include experiences, things they learned at school that day, fiction stories...anything as long as they're writing!!

*Practice spelling words
Idea: make a word search or crossword at www.puzzlemaker.com

Math:
*Unit 5: 14, 15, 19, 22, 26-27
New way to report completion of homework!  Please make sure you are signing your child's blue folder homework sheet when they complete the homework!

*Find different items in your home to measure the perimeter (measurement around the outside of the item) and area (measurement when covering the entire item).  Remember we are using nonstandard units in 1st grade.  Select your measuring tools based on the object.  For example, if you are measuring your kitchen table use pieces of paper or if your measuring a sticky note use cheerios.

Science:
*We are starting a month long study of the ocean!  Get ready to have your ear talked off.  :)  Your child will probably want to soak up as much information that they can over the next few weeks.
-Check out some non-fiction books about ocean animals in the library, then write some facts about that animal
-Draw a diagram of the ocean zones (sunlight, twilight, dark, abyss) and have your child draw some animals that live in those zones
