Sorry for the delay in the blogging. I am finally able to access my blog again. Here are some activities to help enrich your child's learning at home!
Language Arts:
*have your child explore your front/back yard looking for differnt types of soil. They can then draw it and describe it.
*read daily for 10-15 minutes (Required)
*If you haven’t already, start a personal journal for your child to write in everyday.
*Write a letter to a friend or family member using all the correct parts of a letter (date in the upper right corner, greeting followed by a comma, body, and salutation including a comma and their name at the end). It would be really fun if they could find someone to write back and forth with (grandparents, cousins, etc.).
*Practice spelling words
Ideas: Prepares a paper with the spelling words written according the key pad of a telephone. For example, c-a-t would be 2-2-8 (C is on the 2 button, A is on the 2 button, and t is on the 8 button of a telephone key pad). Students will look at a telephone key pad to figure out the spelling word. They will write the spelling word on the paper the teacher has prepared. Or you can have your child tell you the “phone number” of each spelling word.
Write a word on the sidewalk with a wet sponge or paintbrush. Aim a small fan at it to speed drying. The children write the words as many times as they can CORRECTLY AND NEATLY before the word "disappears".
Math:
*give your child a group of 10 numbers from 0-150. Have them order them from least to greatest or vice versa.
*choose a number from 100-150. Have them color the number in the hundreds place red, the tens place blue, and the ones place orange.
*Count by 2s, 5s, and 10s, to 150.
*Practice writing numbers from 100-150. I noticed a lot of students are struggling with this!
*Choose a number from 0-100 and have them write the number 4 different ways. They should know how to do this!
Science
*have your child write a list of all the things your family could do to help the Earth.
*have your child explore your front/back yard looking for differnt types of soil. They can then draw it and describe it.
